You have reached the Whitwell Sawmill Blog! By now you will hopefully already know a bit about us. If not, in summary, we are a small specialist woodyard based in Hertfordshire. We specialise in live edge English timber that has low mileage. We have our own sawmill and kiln on site. We stock a range of timbers and of course our stock is constantly changing because we always have planks air drying and in the kiln.

Within this blog we aim to share with you the behind the scenes, the processes involved in running the sawmill, the work that we do and helpful knowledge about the various timbers we are selling. If you have any particular topics you would like to read about do feel free to get in touch.

At the moment we have the following English timbers in stock in various plank sizes. We also have some odd planks available which would be good for smaller projects.

We also have a large amount of Oak currently in the kiln which has been cut from large trees so this would be good for anyone looking to do a bigger project over the summer. This oak was sourced just up the road from us at Offley so it has extremely low mileage. It is due to come out of the kiln at the end of June (Oak is kiln dried for 6 weeks) so will be available for purchase then. Prior to going into the kiln our Oak is planked and then air dried for 9 months. It is one of the most popular timbers at the moment!
